Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty

One of the most common complaints that my patients come to me with is excess or loose belly skin especially in the lower abdomen that they just cant seem to get rid of no matter how much they diet and exercise. Most women have had a kid or two and are just unable to get that flat stomach that they had before their children.

This problem is often two fold: the first is that the skin has been stretched out and asked to recoil back to its original position but doesn’t and is often noted with stretch marks, and the second is a separation of the abdominal or rectus muscles causing a more bulging appearance of the belly. So what is the solution? Enter the tummy tuck or abdominoplasty.

What is a tummy tuck?

An abdominoplasty (aka tummy tuck) is a surgery in which the excess skin and fat from the lower aspect of your abdomen are removed and the remaining skin is pulled down tight to flatten the stomach.

How much fat and skin is removed?

As humans, we store our abdominal fat in two places: deep to the abdominal muscles and on top of the abdominal muscles. Only the excess skin and fat that are present in the area of the lower abdomen on top of the abdominal muscles can be addressed with a tummy tuck so the amount of skin and tissue removed will vary from patient to patient.
